SUMMARY:

The majority of companies realize the importance of performing background checks. In fact, ninety-six percent of the employers surveyed by HR.com reported that their companies conduct at least one type of employment background screening. For this reason, it is important for HR professionals to comply with background screening regulations and best practices.

By attending this presentation, HR professionals will become familiar with:

  1. The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) in relation to background screening. Regulations covered will include permissible purpose, authorization and disclosure, and the pre-adverse and adverse action process.
  2. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) guidance regarding background screening, including the importance of using only background information that is pertinent to that position when hiring. Also learn why using non-conviction information, such as dismissed cases and arrests, is not recommended while also being mindful of the risks associated with negligent hiring.
  3. The importance of protecting your applicants privacy when performing background screening, such as the importance of encrypting Personal Identifiable Information (PII), secure data storage, and proper login/password management.
