Speaker: Jane Shirley, BSN, Employer Group Wellness Coordinator for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas


  • Current theories and practice in workplace wellness and reported outcomes

  • The implementation of wellness programs as leadership challenges due to the need for adaptive solutions rather than technical fixes

In this session, attendees can expect the following:
  1. Learn about recent research and developments in worksite wellness/well being
  2. Understand the contrast between stress and resilience in the workplace
  3. Recognize state and local resources for implementing workplace wellness programs
  4. Analyze workplace wellness as a leadership challenge

Biography: Jane Shirley holds a BSA in Nursing and a Masters degree in Health Education, both from the University of Kansas. Her professional background includes providing many years of service at a local public health department, three years as the program director for Kansas Coordinated School Health at the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) and four years as the Director of the Local Public Health Program and Director fo the Center for Population Health at KDHE. In July, 2015, Jane transitioned to take on the role of Employer Group Wellness Coordinator at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas. She works with employer groups throughout Kansas to assist them in developing, implementing, and evaluating workplace wellness programs, and she works to link them to resources and programs available to individuals enrolled in BCBSKS health insurance.

Jane provides regular consultation to work sites about workplace wellness. She has most recently presented on the topic of workplace wellness and well being at the 2017 annual meeting of the Kansas Association of Student Financial Aid Advisors.. She also presented on the topic at the October, 2016 League of Kansas Municipalities Conference.
